New Character MagicBands For Walt Disney World Packages

May 8, 2019

There’s something magical about MagicBands. From customizing them online to receiving them in the mail, they just make your day that much more fun. Best of all, they always make your trip feel like it’s right around the corner (even when it’s not).

But, as much as I wanted a Cinderella MagicBand to show off around the Parks, I could never justify spending the money on one. After all, I always got a solid colored one with my Walt Disney World Packages.

But, now that Disney has added Character MagicBands to Walt Disney World Packages, now may be the perfect time to get one.

What are MagicBands?

If you’re unfamiliar with MagicBands, I suggest reading MAGICBANDS – WHAT ARE THEY? AND OTHER FAQ. While they’re not required, they do make your trip easier. For that reason, I consider MagicBands to be an essential part of my Disney vacation.

I don’t have to worry about losing Park Tickets or Room keys because it’s all on my MagicBand. Have FastPasses, Dining Plan Credits, or Dining Reservations? They’re all on your MagicBand. Get your picture taken by a PhotoPass photographer? Tap your MagicBand and it’s added to your account, as well.

Are they still free for Resort Guests?

Unfortunately, starting January 1, 2021, complimentary MagicBands are no longer offered to Guests staying on property.

Fortunately, they’re not being discontinued. ShopDisney and stores around Walt Disney World will continue to sell them.

While it’s unfortunate they’re no longer free, at least Disney is offering a discount to Guests who book a Walt Disney World Package.

Solid colored MagicBands cost about $5. Character MagicBands will cost you about $10.

Once your Package is booked, log into My Disney Experience to choose the color or character you’d like. You’re also be able to personalize your MagicBand by adding your name to the back. This is helpful for families members who want the same color or character.

Using My Disney Experience

I always suggest using a computer vs the App for planning. In my opinion, it’s just easier on the computer. Since you purchased your MagicBands as a part of your Disney Package or Resort Reservation, they will automatically link to your account. You won’t need to link them yourself.

About one month before your trip, Disney ships them to your home in a plain white box.
