My All-Time Favorite Souvenir…And It’s FREE

January 20, 2017

I’m pretty sure I drive my kids crazy. Whenever we go anywhere or do anything fun, I have to pull out my camera and start taking pictures of my boys.

I can’t help it. I’m a mom!

So, it really should be no surprise that photos would have to be my favorite souvenir. Growing up, my dad was always the one behind the camera. I still remember my dad carrying around his camera bag filled with his camera and rolls of film. Because of him, I have photos of fun times I spent with my family on vacations, holidays, or just goofing around at home.

But, it always makes me smile when I can pair a picture of my kids with a picture of me in the same place. I show my kids the 2 pictures, side by side, and we will talk about the similarities and differences between the 2. Any time I can spend talking and laughing with my kids is a good time, even if all the laughing is over my past fashion choices or how long ago the 1980’s were. Thanks boys!

Holy Perm, Mom!  LOL. I love this picture of my mom, my sister, and me waiting in line for Dumbo. This was our first trip to Disney World, so of course we were super excited (note the cheesy grins on our faces).

I can not tell you how happy I am that waiting in line for Dumbo is a different experience than it was back in 1988. I don’t long for the days when you were standing in the HOT Florida sun, waiting for your turn to ride. I was only 6 in this photo, but I still remember how hot it was, especially in late June. Now, you will be given a buzzer, much like when you are waiting for a table at a restaurant. In the meantime, kids can play with all sorts of fun stuff and it gives them a chance to cool down. It’s amazing!

This is another one of my favorites. There is actually a picture of my sister and me standing where my kids stood during our last trip. However, I could not find it with my photos, so it must still be home in NY. I guess I’ll be on a mission to find it on my next trip home.

I am so happy that these crazy things still stand today. They have made a few changes between 1988 and today, but overall, they look exactly the same. That makes me smile. 🙂

We have another trip coming up this year, so I’m excited to find more places to compare. Ready or not, mom is getting her camera ready!
