Planning 101 Vacation Planner Walt Disney World

The Biggest Disney Planning Mistake Families Are Making Right Now

May 14, 2026

Somewhere along the way, planning a Disney vacation stopped feeling exciting and started feeling like a second job.

You’re not imagining it.

You’ve probably watched TikToks, joined the Facebook groups, and scrolled Instagram. You have access to all the information you need. And somehow, you feel less ready than when you started.

And that’s because the biggest Disney planning mistake families are making right now isn’t missing a dining reservation or choosing the wrong Lightning Lane strategy.

It’s treating random advice like it was made for your family. Let me explain…

Everyone Sounds Like an Expert

Not all advice is good advice, even when it’s well intentioned.

Most people aren’t setting out to sabotage your trip. They’re just sharing what worked for their family. So when you post a question in a Facebook group, they’re answering your question based on their own budget, priorities, travel style, and idea of a good time.

That’s why when someone asks “Has anyone ever done XYZ – what was your experience?” the answers end up all over the place. Everyone travels differently.

And honestly, that’s part of why planning a Disney vacation feels so overwhelming now. There’s this constant fear of doing it wrong.

But here’s the thing…you’re planning your dream vacation, not theirs.

So, as long as you’re making decisions based on what your family actually needs and wants, you’re not ruining your trip. You’re simply planning a different one than someone else would.

More Families Are Using AI to Plan Disney Trips

AI is becoming a huge part of planning a Disney vacation now. It can organize information quickly, explain how things works, build sample itineraries, and compare hotel options in seconds.

But there’s something important people are forgetting.

Even AI will tell you that it makes mistakes. And when it comes to Walt Disney World…look out. Because it gets a lot wrong. Even so, more and more families are asking AI to create these perfect Disney itineraries and then wondering why things aren’t going the way they thought it would.

Disney vacations aren’t spreadsheets. They’re emotional experiences. And that’s why AI itineraries don’t work. If focuses on the wrong thing.

Remember…Disney trips can still be magical, even if you miss one ride or you forget you had a dining reservation. It won’t feel so magical when you’re following an itinerary that wasn’t made for you in the first place.

The Internet Has Convinced Families There’s a “Right” Way to Do Disney

Somewhere along the way, families started believing there’s a correct way to visit Walt Disney World. You see it everywhere online. People are terrified of wasting money, missing out, or making the wrong call. So instead of planning around what their family would genuinely enjoy, they start planning based on what worked for others.

And that’s when planning a Disney vacation becomes exhausting.

You feel pressure to rope drop every morning. You feel guilty for slowing down. And you end up being the family sprinting between rides because social media convinced you that “doing it all” is the goal.

But the truth is, most families are just looking for happy kids and good memories.

So forget AI and Social Media and remember that the point of any vacation is to enjoy it. So, choose the things that make you happy, even if it’s not the popular choice.

The Hardest Part Isn’t Finding Disney Advice Anymore

There’s no shortage of Disney information on the internet. If anything, there’s too much of it. And that’s one of the biggest reasons why families are working with travel advisors again for their Disney vacations.

And it has nothing to do with the inability to book your own trip or find the info you’re looking for online. It’s because they’re tired of sorting through hundreds of opinions, questioning every decision, and wondering if they’re about to make an expensive mistake.

The truth is, so much of what I do has nothing to do with booking a trip. It’s helping you understand what you’re choosing and why. I help you see why the hotel you choose affects your entire day, how to avoid spending money on things you realistically won’t use, and how to keep an eye out for discounts, even after you’ve booked.

There’s no such thing as the perfect itinerary. There’s just better options. And once we start planning with that in mind, the whole thing starts feeling a whole lot more fun again.
