Reusable Bags Are Introduced To All The Disney Parks

February 12, 2019

Reusable bags have long been used in local Disney Stores.

But, in 2018, Disney announced that they were making additional significant changes to reduce plastic waste. As part of this change, Disney promised that by mid-2019, plastic straws, lids, and single use retail bags would be reduced.

I visited at Walt Disney World after the announcement was made and, at the time, nothing had seemed to change.

But, now that it’s been a few months, it seems as though those changes are starting to take effect.

Four new designs have been released in Disneyland. Designs include:

Seven new designs have been released in Walt Disney World. These Designs include:

  • Magic Kingdom
  • Epcot
  • Animal Kingdom
  • Hollywood Studios
  • Owned-and-operated shops at Disney Springs
  • Resort Hotels, ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, and other merchandise locations
  • World of Disney

Cost

Unfortunately, just like many other stores who sell reusable bags, these aren’t complimentary.

  • Small Bags – $1
  • Medium Bags – $1.50
  • Large Bags – $2

While they’re intended to be purchased to carry souvenirs, they can also be purchased on its own. There is a 10 bag per transaction limit.

Don’t want to purchase a reusable bag?

Reusable bags are an option for Guests who are looking for an alternative to using plastic bags.

At the moment, complimentary plastic bags are still be available. While, these are 100% recyclable, not everyone recycles these bags. So, Disney would prefer if you used the reusable bags.

Resort Delivery

One of the Perks of staying at a Disney Resort is the ability to send your merchandise back to your Resort. Let me tell you, this Perk is a literal back saver.

I don’t normally buy lots of souvenirs. After all, we’re one of those “Disney on a budget” families. But, when I do, I almost always send it back to the Resort.

Since this reusable bag initiative was in effect during my last trip, I was curious how they would handle Resort Delivery.

The Cast Member didn’t ask if I would like to purchase a reusable bag. It’s unknown whether or not this will change in the future.

But, unless they can find a way to attach receipts to bags without damaging them, I don’t see Disney changing this anytime soon.
