New Information on the Disney Skyliner

November 14, 2018

We’ve been anxiously waiting for some news on the Disney Skyliner ever since we saw the supports going up in September.

Well, we finally got an update.

The last support tower has been installed and workers are beginning to thread the series of reinforced cables. Since work is coming along smoothly, Disney has finally given us an estimated time frame as to when we will see this new Gondola System in action.

Bob Chapek, Chairman of Disney Parks, announced that the Disney Skyliner will be ready to begin transporting Guests beginning Fall 2019.

This new mode of Transportation will connect Hollywood Studios and Epcot to four Resorts. Art of Animation and Pop Century will share a Station between the 2 Resorts over Hourglass Lake. Caribbean Beach and a brand new Disney Vacation Club Resort, Disney’s Riviera Resort, will also be accessible to these Parks via the Skyliner.

The construction, at the moment, is not a pretty sight to see. Some would say that it takes away from the magical feeling one should feel when going on a Disney Vacation.

But, for someone like me, who can see the light at the end of the tunnel, I am welcoming this change and the construction that comes with it.

Although I don’t always stay at Pop Century, it is the Resort that I stay at the most due to it’s Value Pricing. When you have a family of 4 (and children who no longer qualify for children’s pricing), you take all the deals you can.

But, as much as I love this Resort, the only free Transportation available is the Bus, so they get very crowded, very quickly. By adding the Skyliner between Pop Century and Art of Animation, I am hoping it will lessen the congestion on the buses…at least to Epcot and Hollywood Studios.

I fully anticipate the Skyliner to be jam packed for awhile after it opens, as is anything Brand New at Walt Disney World. But, even then, I would gladly wait in line to get on these Gondolas, not only for bragging rights 🙂 , but for the new sights that come with it.

How amazing it’s going to be to look down at Walt Disney World from the air! I already get amazed from the sights on the Monorail, so I’m expecting only good things from the Disney Skyliner.
