Unfortunately, there is a high risk of having some sort of accident while on a road trip.  Cars break down, someone hits you and you’re left stranded in an area you’re not familiar with, and tires can go flat without any prior warning. Anything can happen on the road, so whether you’re traveling 1 hour or 21 hours, keeping your children safe is a top priority.

Making sure that your child’s car seat is securely fastened in your car is just one way to keep your child safe. But, it’s such an important one because if you are ever in an accident, you will at least have peace of mind in knowing that you did all you could to keep your child safe.

Cars.com features a video on car seat safety as well as a report card on some of the newer cars and their safety ratings. They are rated on Latch, infant seats, rear facing convertible seats, forward facing convertible seats, booster seats, and third row access. I suggest checking it out to see how your car measures up, especially if you have a big road trip planned.

Before you leave for any road trip, you get your oil changed and have your mechanic check your engine and tires for potential issues. Properly installed seats is so important that it should be added to this list, as well.

If you’re unsure if your car seat is properly secure, ask for help. A certified safety technician can take a look at your car and check to see if your car seat is properly installed in your vehicle. Actually, even if you think your car seat is secure, it’s better to be safe than sorry…your child’s life depends on it.
