Disney Resorts Planning 101 Walt Disney World

6 Reasons To Stay At A Disney Deluxe Resort

May 6, 2024

Staying at a Disney Deluxe Resort when you’re on a budget may not be your first thought. But, that doesn’t mean you should immediately rule them out.

Think about it: If this is your big, once-in-a-lifetime trip to Walt Disney World, you want it to be incredible. So, you’re gonna want to make sure where you stay matches the type of vacation you’re looking for.

Now, don’t get me wrong—I’m a big fan of the Value and Moderate Resorts. But, there are certain benefits to staying at a Deluxe Resort that you won’t find anywhere else.

Here’s why you should keep Disney Deluxe Resorts in mind for your next vacation.

Consideration #1: Convenient Location

One of the biggest advantages to staying at a Disney Deluxe Resort is where they’re located. These Resorts are closest to the Theme Parks. So, you’re going to have less travel time.

Depending on where you stay, you may be able to walk to at least one of Theme Parks. You’re also going to have more and better transportations options.

Consider the challenges of choosing a Resort that relies solely on buses. Disney’s buses can only accommodate a limited number of wheelchairs and ECVs per trip. And if you’re traveling with a stroller, it will need to folded up before getting onto the bus. All of this hustle and bustle can lead to delays and inconvenience, which is something many Guests don’t want to deal with, especially on busy days.

So, for some Guests, being able to quickly and easily get back to their Resort is a big reason why Guests are choosing Deluxe Resorts over those that rely solely on bus transportation.

Consideration #2: Maximizing Discounts For Better Value

If you were already considering a Moderate Resort, you might be pleasantly surprised to find that, with a promotion, the price difference may not be as much as you think it is.

Deluxe and Deluxe Villa Resorts typically get the highest discounts. And since these Resorts generally cost more anyway, this means bigger savings compared to what you get at Value or Moderate Resorts.

If you’re still struggling with the additional cost, it helps to consider your priorities: What matters most to you? Is it quality, convenience, or price? If you know what you’re looking for, it can help you decide if adding a little extra to your budget is going to be worth it.

Consideration #3: Your Itinerary

Looking at your itinerary can help you decide if a Resort upgrade is worth it for your family. Consider what you’re planning. Are you primarily focused on the Theme Parks? Or are you looking forward to some relaxation and using the Resort’s amenities?

If your itinerary revolves mainly around the Theme Parks, a Resort upgrade may not be the most practical choice. However, if you’re looking forward to some downtime, you may want to use the wide range of amenities that the Deluxe Resorts offer.

Of course, you don’t need to be staying at a Deluxe Resort to enjoy the restaurants, shops, and spas. But, that’s where convenience becomes a factor. Resorts typically don’t have direct access to each other. So, you have to decide how much time you’re willing to dedicate to traveling to these destinations.

Consideration #4: Immersive Theming

Everyone has a favorite Disney Resort. Of course, amenities, convenience, and location play a big part in that. But, the deciding factor is typically how the Resort is decorated.

No Disney Resort is complete without a story. And when it comes to a Deluxe Resort, this is where Disney really shines. Everyone talks about being inside the “Disney bubble.” And while that’s said about any Disney Resort, it’s more evident at the Deluxe Resorts.

Because Disney stays consistent with its theming throughout the entire Resort, it’s easy to see why some Guests just want to hang out in the Resorts all day. It can be easy to forget that you’re just steps away from some of the most popular Theme Parks in the world – even if it’s just for a moment.

Consideration #5: Extra Park Time

One of the top reasons Guests choose Deluxe Resorts is to get more time in the Parks.

For most, a Walt Disney World vacation is not complete without riding their favorite attractions. So, additional Park time is something most Guests want to take advantage of.

While all Resort Guests enjoy Early Park Entry, Deluxe Resort Guests get an added perk: Extended Evening Theme Park Hours. This special perk gives Guests an additional 2 hours of Park time after the official closing.

This is a huge perk. For some, this perk allows them to sleep in, enjoy Resort amenities during the day, and then head to the Parks to ride their favorite attractions later in the day – without needing to purchase Genie+.

Just make sure to check the Hours and Events Calendar before planning your trip solely for the purpose of getting more park time, since it varies by Park and night.

Consideration #6: Bonus Virtual Queue Drop

Although this goes hand in hand with Consideration #5, I feel it’s important that it gets it’s own bullet point since it really is an added benefit to staying at a Deluxe Resort.

Currently, Walt Disney World has 2 must-ride attractions with Virtual Queues: Tron in Magic Kingdom and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in Epcot.

But, here’s the benefit: Guests staying at these Resorts can secure a Virtual Queue spot for these attractions at 6PM, on days with Extended Evening Theme Park Hours in those Parks.

Remember: there are no standby lines for these attractions. So, if these are on your “must ride” lists, getting a Virtual Queue or an Individual Lightning Lane is the only way you’re able to ride these attractions. This takes time and/or money. And since Virtual Queues are free, these reservations fill up very quickly.

For many, being able to get that extra chance to grab one of the free Virtual Queues is a lifesaver. And the the best part is that you don’t need to be in the Park when the 6PM reservations drop.

So, if you’re all about maximizing your time, it just adds to the list of reasons why staying at a Disney Deluxe Resort, even if you’re on a budget, is going to give you that once-in-a-lifetime experience you’re looking for.
