Updates For Tron

August 12, 2018

If you’ve been to the Magic Kingdom recently, you’ve noticed that Space Mountain has been using an alternate exit into Tomorrowland. The purpose of this new change is in preparation for construction of the new Tron Coaster, coming to the Magic Kingdom in 2021.

Sound familiar? Tron Lightcycle Power Run debuted in Shanghai Disneyland on opening day and has consistently been the highest-rated attraction at the Park. This coaster-style ride puts Guests on a train of two-wheeled Lightcycles (a seat similar to that of Flight of Passage) for a thrilling race through the digital frontier. Disney has stated that Magic Kingdom’s version will be based on the Shanghai version. To me, that sounds like we shouldn’t expect a carbon copy of the original. However, how different this attraction will be from its original has yet to be released.

For awhile, we didn’t have ANY information on the new attraction, except for its location near Space Mountain. So, even having the little information that we do, makes it much more exciting and all the more real.

A Brand New Billboard has gone up and is now visible from Storyland Circus, which means one thing…Tron is coming!

Attractions closing to prepare for Tron

Unfortunately, when a new ride is under construction, a lot of times it impacts other surrounding attractions. And Tron is no exception.

Walt Disney World Railroad – Starting in December 2018, the Railroad will not be making it’s round-the-park tour of the Magic Kingdom. However, this is a wonderful opportunity to get an up-close look at the railroad and take advantage of one-of-a-kind photo opportunities. Hello Instagram! There is no reopening date for the Railroad at this time.

Tomorrowland Speedway – Walt Disney World worked hard to figure out a way to add Tron to Tomorrowland without losing its existing attractions, including Tomorrowland Speedway. Their solution is to adjust the track, so there will be room for everything. To do this, Tomorrowland Speedway will close for a portion of 2019. It should be reopening Summer 2019.

If this is what we can look forward to in the Magic Kingdom, I’m sold!
