For some, cruising is the last thing on their mind. But, for some, there’s no better way to enjoy a Disney vacation than aboard the Disney Cruise Line.
For those who are eager to get back on board, there are changes to the way we step aboard the cruise ships. But, it’s not like we didn’t know changes were coming.
View these requirements…and follow them to a T. You don’t want to be left behind when ships set sail starting August 2021.
Latest News – Vaccines Are Required For All Cruises Arriving To The Bahamas
Since Cruise Ships dock at many different countries, they must adhere to the rules and regulations being enforced by that country.
According to The Bahamas, all passengers will need to be fully vaccinated before a Ship will be allowed to dock. This includes Disney’s private island in The Bahamas, Castaway Cay. This mandate will go into effect beginning September 3, 2021 through November 1, 2021. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if this mandate is repeatedly pushed back.
If you do not provide proof, you will not be permitted to board the Ship.
Modifying or Cancelling Your Cruise
Guests may modify or cancel their trip, without any Disney-imposed cancellation fees by September 3, 2021. If you cancel, you will receive a full refund to the original form(s) of payment. The standard cancellation policies will go back into effect on September 4, 2021. If you’re using a Travel Agent, let him/her know as soon as possible, so we can rearrange everything for you.
Remember to also check in with your Airline, Travel Insurance company, etc to see if there are any cancellation fees for cancelling your trip. These are considered 3rd Party vendors, so cancellation fees may apply.
Show Proof of Vaccination or Negative COVID Test
Everyone in your traveling party will need to create an account on the Safe Passage by Inspire Diagnostics Website. This must be done no earlier than 33 days prior to boarding your Cruise ship. Minors will also need to have their own accounts.
Once your account is created, you will be asked to provide proof of vaccination or proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test.
Please, do not take this lightly. Any Guest with positive COVID-19 test results will be denied boarding. The same goes for anyone they are traveling with.
If Inspire Diagnostics has not received your required documentation, you may also be denied boarding. So, watch for those required dates! And when all else fails, bring your proof with you.
Provide Proof of Vaccination
The CDC considers anyone to be fully vaccinated 14 days after they received their final dose of the vaccine.
Between 33 days and 24 hours prior to your trip, upload proof that you are vaccinated onto the Safe Passage website. Providing proof will exempt you from pre-arrival and Embarkation Day COVID-19 testing. So, make sure you do this as soon as possible to avoid delays.
However, even if you upload your Vaccination Card online, you should also bring it with you. If there’s an issue, you want to be able to show your Vaccination status quickly and easily.
Provide Proof of a Negative COVID-19 PCR Test Result
If you do not provide proof of vaccination records, you will be required to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test. This test must be taken between 5 days and 24 hours prior to your sail date.
You may choose any testing site of your choosing. But, be aware that the Disney Cruise Line is specifically requesting a PCR test. I would not take my chances providing a Rapid Antigen Test. It will most likely not be accepted. And it could possibly affect your chance of getting on board.
Upload your negative results to the Safe Passage Website no later than 24 hours before your trip. This will help avoid delays on Embarkation Day. And just like Vaccination Cards, bring your negative test results with you, just in case there is a problem.
Ordering a PCR Test Kit
If you don’t know where to go for the PCR test, you can also purchase a PCR Testing Kit from Inspire Diagnostics (USA only). Each kit includes instructions for testing on your own, as well as paid postage to send it back. These tests must be received 4-5 days before you set sail. So, if you go this route, immediately send the kit back to Inspire Diagnostics.
While the do-it-yourself kit could make things easier for some, I would personally look for a testing site in your area before ordering one from Inspire Diagnostics. While they do provide a postage-paid envelope with the kit, each of these kits will cost you $98.33 per test.
Complete the Pre-Trip Embarkation Health Questionnaire
It’s always a good idea to have the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App on your phone when you sail. The App lets you explore activities, chat with friends and family onboard, view your reservations, etc. There is also a new new virtual queue system to debark the ship at all ports of call.
But, on Embarkation Day, it’ll also allow you to easily fill out your Health Questionnaire. If you’ve been to the doctor in the past year, I’m sure this questionnaire will look familiar. This is just to show the Disney Cruise Line that you acknowledge no one in your party has not been in close contact with someone confirmed or suspected of COVID-19 within the last 14 days. You’re also confirming you’re not experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms.
The same questionnaire will be sent to everyone’s email address, in case you do not have the App.
Face Masks Required For Everyone
Regardless of your vaccine status, everyone over the age of 2 will be required to wear face masks while indoors on the cruise ship. Of course, this does not apply to your own stateroom or when you’re actively eating.
Any time you’re outdoors on board the ship, you will be able to take your mask off. The same rule applies to Castaway Cay.
However, Cruise Lines do stop at other countries. So, face masks may be required outside in ports of call, based on local government requirements.
Travel Insurance Required For Some Disney Cruise Line Guests
All Guests are encouraged to obtain Travel Insurance for their entire Cruise.
But, if you are unvaccinated, this will be a requirement through December 31, 2021. All unvaccinated Guests ages 12 and up will need to purchase Travel Insurance that includes:
- At least $10,000 in Medical Expense Coverage
- At least $30,000 in Medical Evacuation
- No COVID-19 Exclusions
You may add Travel Insurance to your Disney Cruise Line Reservation, through the Disney Cruise Line Vacation Protection Program, or you can purchase your own. If you purchase on your own, like Travel Guard, you will need to provide proof of the insurance policy, include the name of each Guest in your party, and a description of the coverage to show it follows these guidelines.
Additional Information About The Disney Cruise Line
Where there’s changes, there are questions. As much as we try to answer as many questions as possible in these posts, we can’t always answer them all. You can find additional information on changes made to the Disney Cruise Line on Disney’s Know Before You Go page.
But, if this resource doesn’t help, please feel free to ask us here. We’re always eager to help.
