Policies Regarding Your Reservation When There Is A Hurricane In The Orlando Area

September 5, 2017

It’s hard to believe that we’re talking about another major hurricane so close to Hurricane Harvey. Are we ever going to get a break?

Unfortunantely for those who have plans on visiting Florida destinations in the next week or so, Irma seems to be making its way towards Florida. In fact, parts of Florida are already under mandatory evacuations. This leaves travelers wondering, “What happens if I have to cancel my vacation due to a hurricane?”

Fortunately, giant companies like Disney, Universal Studios, and Sea World understand that no one should have to worry that everything they saved up for will be lost because of a hurricane.

According to Disney, you are allowed to reschedule or cancel reservations made directly through Disney without any fees if there is a hurricane warning in either Orlando or your residence. However, this policy does not extend to special events, like Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween, which is going on right now. UPDATE: Disney IS allowing guests to receive refunds and exchanges on Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party AND Night of Joy because of cancellations due to Hurricane Irma. Please visit here for the details.

Universal Studios also states, “We have an affirmative, no-questions-asked policy for guests who tell us they want to change plans or seek a refund because of a named storm involving the Orlando area or where they are traveling from.”

Sea World assured their guests that they have a “peace of mind” policy that allows guests to reschedule or receive a refund on packages or park tickets without any fees.

As for us, we are remaining optimistic about still being able to go on our trip next week. Irma isn’t going to take us down that easily. We’ve “checked-in” to Port Orleans-Riverside, via the My Disney Experience App, and bags are continuing to be slowly packed. We are ready!
